October 2022 – Winter White Cosmo

My favorite holiday cocktail during Thanksgiving and Christmas is the Winter White Cosmo (Originally found at Bonefish Grill – slightly modified).  I am posting it now since the Ocean Spray White Cranberry Juice is difficult to find in November and December so wanted to make sure people stock up now.  I usually by two 64 oz jugs so I have one for Thanksgiving and one for the Christmas holiday.  This cocktail covers the two required attributes for a cocktail given that it tastes great and looks outstanding.  Each year when I serve this cocktail it is a big hit to start out the evening.  When I first discovered at Bonefish it was excellent but a little to sweet for my taste.  I got the ingredients from the bartender and started to tweak the proportions, used fresh squeezed lime juice and homemade simple syrup, and ultimately ended up with the ratios I use here.  Not sure what the “real” official recipe is but thus far this version works perfectly for myself and my guests and is visually perfect for the winter holiday season.

Ingredients:

• Smirnoff Cranberry Vodka
• Fresh Lime Juice
• Simple Syrup
• Cointreau
• Ocean Spray White Cranberry Juice
• Cranberries (for garnish)

Tools:

• Oxo two-sided shot glass/jigger
• Martini Glass (Place in freezer to frost)
• Cocktail Shaker
• Cocktail/Martini Mixing Pitcher with Stirrer (optional for making batch drinks)

Directions:

• Make your Lime Juice Simple Syrup Mixture – Heat 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in saucepan and bring to boil then let cool to make simple syrup
• Make a mixture of 50/50 of fresh squeezed lime juice and the simple syrup and place in plastic bottle for use in making drinks (I usually mix 1/2 cup lime juice and 1/2 cup simple syrup – makes about 8 drinks)
• Fill cocktail shaker with ice and then add ingredients for one cocktail.
  • 2 oz – Smirnoff Cranberry Vodka
  • 1 oz – Lime/simple syrup 50/50 mixture
  • .75 oz – Cointreau
  • 2 oz – Ocean Spray White Cranberry Juice
• Shake very vigorously.  Important to shake hard and for 20 seconds or more.  Makes ice crystals on top to give drink wintery look.
• Strain drink using cocktail shaker (liquid only – no ice cubes – classic martini style) into frozen martini glass
• Garnish with frozen Cranberries (float on top of drink)
• Make toast to all your loved ones and friends who are with you and enjoy the drink and their company.
