A tradition that started several years ago upon moving to Florida is one that will likely be with me for decades to come and involves a bike ride, a big breakfast and having a Bloody Mary on Christmas day.  My family and I enjoy a morning bike ride every Christmas on the nearby golf course (it is closed that day) and riding along the cart-path away from traffic is a very fun and relaxing way to start the day and enjoy the Florida weather.  We then enjoy a hearty breakfast (e.g., homemade buttermilk pancakes) and coffee drinks which always taste good after the long bike ride.  Once we clean-up we get ready to move to the living room for our gift exchange which we always enjoy.  As part of that, we introduced the habit of imbibing bloody Mary’s as part of the gift exchange tradition.  What started out as trying different mixes, to determine which one we liked best, inevitably moved to making our own homemade bloody Mary mix.  This year I added a twist of adding a couple tablespoons of pickle juice from Wickles brand pickles and it added an additional backdrop of heat and flavor.  This recipe is meant to be made the night before to allow all the flavors to meld together thus its ready to drink the next morning with minimal effort.  If you’re going to add a garnish of assorted edible treats then I suggest preparing those the night before as well so you can pour, mix, garnish and enjoy in very short order.   Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!!!!!!
