Last month we made the classic Daiquiri, a great simple drink made with Rum, lime juice and simple syrup. I would be remiss if I did not follow-up with the Hemingway Daiquiri which was born when in Cuba, Ernest Hemingway tasted the Daiquiri and proclaimed not bad but double the rum and lose the sugar.  From that was born the Hemingway Daiquiri which lost the sugar but was modified by adding both grapefruit juice and Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur to add back in a slight bit of sweetness.  While last month’s drink was a good balance of tart and sweet this month’s Hemingway Daiquiri definitely leans tart.  As with many cocktails feel free to modify slightly to fit your palate, I have seen recipes add a dash of simple syrup to add more sweetness to the drink which I have added as optional should you have a leaning towards a sweeter drink.  I prefer the original Hemingway (no simple syrup) since if I want the sweeter version, I just drink the classic Daiquiri.

I always enjoy a classic daiquiri, but this one takes it to a whole new level. The Hemingway is one of my favorite summer cocktails. A delicious choice to feature!

Thanks Aaron. I agree the classic is simple and tasty and yet the Hemmingway is a whole different story and a fun twist on a classic
