As the dog days of summer wind down and I’m needing to get through a few more hot days before fall, my mind immediately turns to an ice cream drink to cool things off. As a previous Michigander, I would be remiss if I did not choose the Hummer as my first ice cream drink to share. For those of you not from Michigan, or by chance, just not familiar with the drink, the Hummer has a special place in Michigan since it was originally created there. In the late 1960’s at the Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit bartender Jerome Adams created this wonderful drink and its name came to be after a patron commented that after a couple of these it will make you want to hum. This drink needs to be thick, and the best test is if the straw can stand on its own in the drink. Give this one a whirl and you won’t be disappointed.
